Environments, Matte Paintings, and Volumetric Clouds for Snoopy's first 3D theatrical release.
With no more than three matte painters/environment TD's working on the film at a time, we created hero landmarks and modular set-pieces using any method to best accomplish the job (painting, procedural texturing, modelling, etc). By prioritizing re-usability and vast over-painting at the layout stage, we were able to maximize the amount of ground covered by a small team in creating an expansive stylized world.
Under the guidance of Art Director Nash Dunnigan, we created a library of cloud shapes to mimic Charles Schulz's iconic sensibilities. These clouds were then used throughout the film in both Charlie Brown's world (as 2D backgrounds) and Snoopy's imagination (as 3D volumes).
